The “THE VAN DER VEER FAMILY FROM 1659 TO 1912” was apparently in the possession of Fred Conrow and contained some 1300 names. He was also adding subsequent information on our line. The extracts he copied in Oct 1968 reference both the research and the following sources of information:
Early Dutch Settlers of Monmouth County, New Jersey by George Bleakly
Old Dutch Church and Cemetery records
Documentary History of New York
Continental History of America

"Our early ancestors, the Van der Veers, Van Voorhees, Van Kowenhovens, Schencks, Hendricksons and Smocks emigrated from Holland between the years 1620 and 1660 and settled at or near Miswout, now Flatbush, Long Island. The first and only emigrant of the Van der Veers was Cornelius Janse Van der Veer who came from Alkmar, North Holland on the ship Otter and landed at Midwout (Flatbush, Long Island) in February, 1659." Van Derveer signifies "from the ferry" The Van der Veer Coat of Arms is also described and interpreted.
