She was said to be from Bavaria by descendants, but census records and her death certificate say she was born in (Cherry Ridge Twp) PA. In 1860 she is living with her family at age 6, name spelled Spoier. All subsequent records spell her name Sporer.
In 1870 she was living (or working) in a hotel in Honesdale and listed as a domestic servant, age 18, born in Penn. with both parents of foreign birth. 1880 lists her married to Joseph with Cristina, Joseph, John and Charles. They were both born in PA and both sets of parents are listed from Prussia. Joseph's mother is also listed adjacent to them at age 71 and a widow. 1900 Census lists her place of birth as Penn. At the time they were married 29 years, 8 children - 5 living. In 1907 she was deeded the family (1/4 Ac) land which was given half to George in 1865 and half to Joseph in 1869. All descendants of both families signed the deed. She is listed as 56 in the 1910 census, head of household with her sons Michael and Wm. In 1920 she owns her home on Cliff St. and is listed as a widowed head of household, age 65 born in Penn, with both parents from Germany. Her son Wm is listed with her at age 31. Her death cert in 1934 lists her as a widow living on Terrace St. at age 80. She died of cerebral apoplexy. She died intestate and her daughter handled her estate which amounted to about $450. It also listed her children, ages and residence at the time.

MRS. MARY DENK DIES
HONESDALE, Jan. 18.-Mrs. Mary Denk, 80, died at 7 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Perry A. Tallman, Honesdale following an illness of six weeks.
Mrs. Denk was a native of Honesdale and was born Feb. 12, 1854. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Sporer. She was united in marriage to George Denk and resided on Cliff street for a number of years.
The funeral services will be held Saturday morning in St. Mary Magdalen church at 9:30 o'clock and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Denk is survived by the above mention daughter, four sons: William Denk, Honesdale; Michael, Joseph, Waymart; John, Binghamton, NY two brothers and two sisters: Michael Sporer, Scranton; John, Honesdale; Mrs. Joseph Denk, and Mr. John Stegner Sr., Honesdale.

His birth was listed as 15 Apr 1852 in Betty's files, but as 18 Apr on Death Cert. Listed with his parents in 1860. His half of the family land was transferred to him in 1869 from his mother for $1, with the condition that she be allowed to live there the rest of her life. In the deed their name appears to be written as Dink!
In 1870 he and his mother are listed with his brother's family. He is a laborer and the name appears to be written as Dant.
1880 lists he and his wife with Cristina, and children Joseph, John and Charles. They were both born in PA and both sets of parents are listed from Prussia. His mother is also listed adjacent to them at age 71 and a widow. He was a laborer who had been unemployed 6 months of the previous year.
1900 Census lists his place of birth as Penn., as well as his wife. At the time they were married 29 years, 8 children - 5 living and their name as listed as Dink. His death was listed as 24 Aug 1906, but Death Cert says it was the 25th and lists him as a laborer. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage and had vascular heart disease.

George Denk, aged 64 years, died at his home on Cliff street Friday evening.
The deceased had been in poor health the past year suffering from rheumatism and about a week ago suffered a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Denk was well known in this vicinity.
He was born in Honesdale and resided here for a number of years. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Perry Tallman, Joseph, of Waymart, John, Michael, and William.
The funeral was held this morning at St. Magdalen's German Catholic church and interment was made In the German Catholic cemetery.
