Misc. Notes
was originally listed as Northport, P. E. Co.
RESIDENCE: "As the child of a true U.E. Loyalists, Peter William was entitled to a grant of two hundred acres. He chose to take land in Sophiasburg and so moved across the Bay." (Adams, 1991 p.?).
BURIAL: Peter William and Fanny Ruttan are both buried in the west half of Lot 23, 1st Concession, Sophiasburgh.
MILITARY SERVICE: "It is more likely that William's son, Peter William, was made a Colonel, like his younger brother Henry. Having been born in 1787, he would have been 25 during the war of 1812 and might have earned his rank then and subsequently. In any case Osborne family records boast that Samuel married "a daughter of Colonel Peter Ruttan", rather than a niece of Col. Henry or a grand-niece of Col. Peter or a grand-daughter of Col. William. And, you say, your grandmother said her grandfather was a colonel. And your mother writes of visiting the large house of her great grandfather, Colonel Ruttan, and seeing his coach-and-four and watching him work at tailoring some clothes." (Adams, 1991 p.?).
NAME: Listed as "Rattan" in marriage register.
