Wells Family - Person Sheet
NameDeborah Head
Birth13 Apr 1739, Little Compton, Newport Co, RI
Misc. Notes
Dau of Henry Head Jr and Anna Paddock. She is a descendand of the Hilliard family who lived in Plymouth Colony, even though they didn’t arrive on the Mayflower.
It is unclear and doubtful whether she is the mother of William, but very possible that she may be a second wife of Brittain and mother of children Brittain (Jr) and Darius.

Misc. Notes
HIs birth is the same as his mother’s death, suggesting she died in childbirth, and that Darius remarried.
He lived adjacent to his father in Dutchess County, and inherited part of this property at his father's death. Upon his death, his will was offered for probate 7 Feb 1815, but was contested and set aside. His sister Meribah refused to be Adminsitrator. Finally David and Darius and two others were given letters of administration. The will provides for his wife Deborah, but mentions no children. The only Tallman mentioned is "my grand-nephew Britton Tallman my large quarto bible." Most of the bequests were to in-laws, the Heads and Wilburs.
Proof that Brittain is the father of William is the story from the Wayne Co. newspaper on the Tallmans where Samantha Dix Tallman told a granddaughter that William's father was named Brittain, plus "The History of Schuyler, NY" which also states William is the son of Brittain.
He apparently had two additional children, Brittain and Darius, by Deborah Head or a second wife(?), based on the separation between William and them.
