She was supposedly related to Fenton Glass in England. Born in a sod house. Her mother died when she was 3. Raised, along with her half brother Charles, by her aunt Maryette Fenton Stone. A picture of her with her (2nd) cousin Edith Colwell is noted as being taken about 1891 in Sigourney town, which is in Keokuk Co, IA.
Had a 3rd son about a year after Francis, named him Ervin - but he only lived one day.
Divorced Wm Ruttan about 1901/02. She later said her biggest regret was having left her children with him.
She went to Kansas City to look for work, and met Wm. Wendell there. Her daughter Mildred was born in 1908, while they were living on Euclid Ave, Kansas City MO. She is listed as Mabel H. Wendell at 3340 Woodland Ave, Kansas City (MO) in 1909 when her grandfather’s will was settled.
She and her 2nd husband Wm Wendell are listed at 3629 Flora Ave in Kansas City in 1910, with their daughter Mildred, age 1. It is his first marriage, and her second, with him working as a supply clerk in a hardware store, renting his house.
Lived in Calif for 52 years (beginning in 1918?).
Died of acute peritonitis, due to post-operative bowel obstruction, following broken left femur, complicated by broncho-pneumonia.
