Misc. Notes
Her place of birth listed as Williamsburg on her death certificate, and I found her family listed in the 1840 Guernsey Co census.
1900 Census lists her as married 27 yrs, with one living child, and born May 1842 in Ohio, with her father born in Maryland and her mother from Ireland.
1910 census lists just Isaac (74), a farmer, and Mary (64), married 37 years. They had 1 child (living) and her parents were listed as being born in Delaware and Ireland.
1920 shows Mary (76) living with her son-in-law Fred Conrow and his family - Mamie and daughter Louise (19) on Railroad St. This matches with Death Cert which says she lived there for 5 years before her death. The family story says she lived with her daughter's family in Brookville (Mamie & Fred Conrow) after the death of her husband. This was while Louise Conrow Ruttan was in High School there (~1915/16).

1910 census lists just Isaac (74), a farmer, and Mary (64), married 37 years. They had 1 child (living) and her parents were listed as being born in Delaware and Ireland.
1920 shows Mary (76) living with her son-in-law Fred Conrow and his family - Mamie and daughter Louise (19) on Railroad St. This matches with Death Cert which says she lived there for 5 years before her death. The family story says she lived with her daughter's family in Brookville (Mamie & Fred Conrow) after the death of her husband. This was while Louise Conrow Ruttan was in High School there (~1915/16).

Death certificate says he was born in Williamsburg, all other records just say Guernsey Co.
PLACE: Williamsburg, Beaver Twp, Guernsey Co OH is currently named Batesville, Beaver Twp, Noble Co OH. Noble Co was formed in 1851.
In 1850 the family was all males: He (14) and father (51) were both Isaac Cooper, along with 3 other sons. Father was born in VA, sons in OH. Listed in Allensville, Richland Twp in 1860 census as saddle maker, born in Ohio and with $300 of property.
He is listed in the Caldwell, KS Upton Post #27 of the Grand Army of the Republic as having served from 20 Apr 1861 until 30 Jun 1865 as a Private in Co D of the 18th Regiment Ohio Infantry, and was discharged from Co D of the 2nd West Virginia Cavalry.

Gen. Custer’s Farewell Order
The following is a copy of Gen. Custer’s last order to his soldiers at Appomatox in 1865. Our granger friend I. N. Cooper was a soldier in his command , and the order is still as familiar to him as the face of the gallant commander was at the time. Mr. Cooper says the boys always dreaded to have the General in their immediate vicinity during a battle, as there were always a few thousand more bullets flying around him than in any other part of the field….
Phyllis (Conrow) Dearing's mother said he was a leather worker - made lots of harness and saddles for the Army, raised cattle in Ohio and did pretty well financially, and that they came to Caldwell, KS from Ohio.
On 21 Nov 1873 he purchased the farm at Caldwell (Sumner Co), a quarter section of 160 acres, from Jacob S. Jones who had homesteaded it for $822 with 1/2 down and 1/2 due 29 July 1874 at 12% interest. The original land grant is signed by President Grant (I have a copy).
He is then listed in the 1875 Kansas census as I. N. Cooper a farmer (39, OH), with his wife M. L. Cooper (33, OH) and Cooper daughter, age 1, born in Kansas.
1880 Census lists him as a farmer, age 50, his wife Mary as age 38 and daughter Mamie age 6. Both he and Mary born in OH, Mamie in KS. They had a girl (16) as a housekeeper and boy (22) farming as servants.
He filed for his Civil War pension on 7 Sept 1889.
1900 Census lists him as a farmer, owning his own farm, married 27 yrs and born Oct 1835 in Ohio, with both parents being born in Virginia. It also lists a boy (17) and girl (12) living with them as servants.
1910 census lists just Isaac (74), a farmer, and Mary (64), married 37 years. They had 1 child (living) and her parents were listed as being born in Delaware and Ireland. His death cert says he died of a cerebral hemorrhage or coronary thrombosis. Names his parents as Isaac Cooper and Elizabeth Hastings, their place of birth, his age and profession (farmer).
