She has the Conrow Family Bible going back to the marr of Hendrick Smock and Ann Vanderveer. Her family moved from Wabaunsee to Manhattan in 1907 so the older kids could get more than an 8th grade education. Of the 9 children, 5 graduated from Kansas State University. Three of her sons, and all 8 grandchildren (6 boys, 2 girls) have graduated from KSU. She had only 2 great granddaughters (8 yrs & 2 mos) as of 6/93. Moved to a retirement home Jan 2001.

Ida Augusta (Conrow) McGehee, 103, a longtime Manhattan resident, died Nov. 30 in Hesston. She was born Aug. 14, 1899, in Wakefield, the sixth of nine children born to William Augustus and Lena May (Falk) Conrow. She lived in Manhattan from 1907 until she moved to Hesston about six months ago to be near two of her sons.
She got her high school degree from the school of agriculture at Kansas State Agricultural College in 1920, and graduated from K-State in 1926. She lettered in five sports while a student at K-State. She taught home economics and was the girls’ basketball coach for a number of years in Agenda.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church and enjoyed gardening, needlework, crocheting and attending community events. During WWI and WWII she volunteered at the Red Cross Canteen. At the time of her death she was the oldest living K-State letter-winner, and in 2001 the K-State women’s rowing program christened a boat with her name.
On July 20, 1928, in Manhattan, she was married to A.L. “Roy” McGehee. They farmed in Moehlman Bottoms and later the Wabaunsee community. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1985. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Aubrey, John, Frank and Ned Conrow; and four sisters, Adelle Adams, Grace Whitney, Alda Whisnant and Amy Piper.
Survivors include three sons, Richard C. McGehee and his wife Betty of Wichita, “Archie” LeRoy McGehee and his wife Cecilia of Ottawa, and John A. McGehee of Hesston; eight grandchildren, Gayle Baldwin, Bruce McGehee, Steven McGehee, Deborah Lair, Thomas McGehee, Greg McGehee, Dwight McGehee and Shawn McGehee; and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in Manhattan with Rev. R. Kent Cormack officiating. Burial following in Sunset Cemetery. At the funeral, much was said about her aversion to women wearing pants. They even ran across a bible reference to women wearing men's clothing in Deuteronomy!
