Marriage record - "Patrick Ryan of the Parish of St. Stephen and Catherine Dwyer of the same parish were married by Banns with consent of parents this twenty first day of January 1847 by John Cummins. In presence of Wm Ryan and Ann Barrett." John Cummins was the Parish Priest of St. Stephen's Church at Milltown. This record indicates the parents of either or both of Patrick and Catherine were alive and probably living in the St. Stephen area. The term "married by Banns" is generally when the marriage is announced in church as an alternate to getting a license or posting a bond. There is a Patrick Ryan listed as a sponsor of the baptism of a child of Matthew Ryan & Catherine Dwyer in 1846, and also as a witness at the marriage of John Ryan and Margaret Murphy in 1848. This is the right time to be the same Patrick (as no other Patrick has been found in any references) or could be his father? The headstones for he and his wife are in the old Catholic part of Calais Cemetery. They were noted by Valdine Atwood, a researcher in the area, while doing research for me. This is consistent with his wife and dau listings in 1860 and 1870 census.

Misc. Notes
Catherine was named on dau Bridget's death cert. Catherine is listed as head of household (age 50, Ireland) with Mary Ryan (age 40, Ireland) and dau Bridget (11) in 1860. Currently assuming Mary is possibly Patrick's sister!
1870 - listed (age 50, Ireland) with her daughter's family and the same Mary Ryan (age 53, Ireland), both "domestics". The headstone for she and her husband is in the old Catholic part of Calais Cemetery. It was noted by Valdine Atwood while doing research for me.
