Mrs. Thatcher of Tonopah Family, Dies
Funeral arrangements are pending in Victoria, B.C. Canada for Mrs. Muriel Robb Thatcher, 85, a member of a pioneer Tonopah family who died Wednesday morning in Victoria.
A native of the old mining town of Aurora, Mrs. Thatcher moved with her family to Tonopah in 1906 to an imposing home her family lived in continuously until recent years.
Her father, the late Daniel J. Robb, served two terms as sheriff at Tonopah and later represented the area in the Nevada Assembly. He also served as sheriff of an area the included Nye, Mineral and Esmeralda counties. Robb also helped build the first 20-mule team wagons used to haul borax from Death Valley. He was superintendent of the Carson City Mint at the time of its closure.
Mrs. Thatcher was educated in Nevada schools and at Berkeley and San Francisco, Calif. before returning to Tonopah to teach school. There she married the late Walter Scott Thatcher, who moved to Manhattan and then Tonopah as a mining engineer. She and her husband moved to California when he was hired by Giant Powder Co. Company transfers let to various locations in the United States and Canada. Mrs. Thatcher lived in Victoria since he husband’s death several years ago (1963).
She is survived by daughters, Mrs. J. W. Phillips of Bellevue, Wash. and Mrs. C. W. Irwin of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters Blanche Robb of Carson City and Ethel McCulloch of Tonopah; two nephews, Marshall Robb of Las Vega and Daniel J. Robb of Tonopah, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
