BELLVILLE
William F. “Bill” Dickson, 82, of Bellville, died Saturday morning February 23, 2008 in Lexington Court Care Center.
He was born June 15, 1925 in Washington Township near Bellville to Floyd A. and Freda M. (Herrick) Dickson and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1943.
A lifelong Bellville resident, Bill had worked with Stevens Manufacturing in Lexington, and retired in 1990 as a supervisor from Therm-O-Disc in Mansfield.
A member of the Presbyterian Church in Bellville, Bill was also active with the Bellville-Jefferson Township Historical Society, the Lexington Senior Civic Center, and Bellville Lodge #376 F. & A.M.
Shortly after his marriage to his high school sweetheart, Bill picked up the game of golf. In 1956 he began shooting “holes-in-one.” Throughout his life Bill shot ten holes-in-one, including his ninth one on the opening day of the Deer Ridge Course near Bellville. He combined his love of the game and his compulsion for excellence when he served as superintendent of the San-Dar Golf Course in Bellville.
Bill was characterized by his patient personality, even under trial and illness. His honesty and sense of humor added to his likability. An endearing family man, he loved his family, and thought his grandchildren were the highlight of his lifeā€¦until his great grandchildren came along. Family, pizza and a good round of euchre made a perfect evening for him.
He is survived by his wife Bernadene D. “Bobbie” (Banks) Dickson, whom he married August 19, 1944; a son and daughter-in-law Dean & Deborah Dickson of Grapevine, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Rosemary & James Strickling of Bellville and Charlotte & William Watkins of Fredericktown; grandchildren Steven & Heather Strickling of Bellville, Matthew & Camille Strickling of Lakeville, Courtney & Randy Wade of Fredericktown, Tyler & Angey Watkins of Fredericktown, Kurt Hoenig and Seth Hoenig both of Grapevine, Texas; great grandchildren who were the apple of his eye Madelyn, Meghan , Molly, Ryan, Derek, Aaron, Seth, Kayla, Caleb and Logan; a sister and brother-in-law Shirley & Gene Taylor of Lexington; a brother-in-law John “Clark” Young of Columbus; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by twin infant sons Ronald and Donald; brother and sister-in-law Richard & Geneva Dickson; and a sister Helen Young.
The family will receive friends Monday February 25, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where Bellville Lodge #376 will hold a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Pretorius officiating. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
