Gerald Wells, age 74, of Mount Vernon, lost his battle with lung cancer on Friday, January 16, 2015 at his residence.
He was born on January 5, 1941 in Brandon, Ohio to John and Mary Lillian (Allgire) Wells.
For the last 51 years, Gerald had been married to the love of his life, Velma (Zwilling) Wells. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1959, he served with the Army National Guard. Upon his discharge, Gerald worked as a mechanic. There wasn’t an engine or transmission he couldn't fix. He retired from Ariel Corp. after 25 years. While working full time, he also ran the family farm for the last 40 years.
For the last 20 years, Gerald had a love for restoring antique farm tractors and was a former member of the Kokosing Valley Antique Tractor Club.
Surviving Gerald is his son, John and daughter-in-law Sherri Wells, daughter, Jill Wells and son-in-law Jay Kurpyl; grandchildren, Cody and Kayla Wells; a sister Sue, and brother-in-law Tom Miller; niece, Darla and her husband Rino Costa; a nephew, Nathan and his wife, Liz Miller, brother-in-law, Glenn Bricker, a niece, Kim and her husband, Bill Doane; nephew, Korby and his wife, Jenny Bricker; along with numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Thelma Bricker.
In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, their will be no calling hours or public services. The Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the arrangements for the Wells family.
