Barbara Ellen French
MANSFIELD - No stranger to hard work and sacrifice, Barbara French grew up one of ten children on a farm near Johnsville during the Great Depression, and as a young lady worked at Westinghouse during WWII. Her hard working hands now at peace, Barbara Ellen French, 94, of Mansfield passed away Monday April 23, 2018 in Mansfield Memorial Homes.
The daughter of Clarence and Edna Mae (Irwin) Wells Barbara was born January 18, 1924 in southern Richland County and was graduated from Johnsville High School in 1942. Barbara moved to Mansfield and worked at Westinghouse and retired from Sensors and Switches in 1989.
She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed sewing and solving crossword puzzles. Meticulous and sharp minded, even at age 94 she was balancing her own checkbook to the penny. A loving and devoted mother, Barbara always placed the needs of her daughter above her own.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia French of Mansfield; brother-in-law Richard Chronister; nieces Sue (Tom) Miller and Cheryl Rhoades and nephew David (Kim) Chronister; as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Edna Mae Wells; siblings Ruby Cathers, Sara Rebecca Chronister, Marjorie Keckler, Mary Wells, Harold Wells, Warren Wells, Marion Wells, Leland Wells and John Wells.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 11am-12pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow in North Fork Cemetery.
Barbara's family would like to thank the staff at Mansfield Memorial Homes and OhioHealth Hospice for the compassionate care given to Barbara.
Memorial contributions to the Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.
