BELLVILLE:
Earl J Banks, 94, of Bellville passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital.
The son of Clarence and Bessie (Clever) Banks, he was born April 26, 1927. After high school, Earl worked at Tappan Stove Company for forty-four years. Earl started playing golf and continued playing into his nineties, including playing on many leagues.
Earl was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Air Force and honorably discharged from the Army of the United States. He enjoyed playing golf and built his own "pitch and putt" course called Cottonwood. He worked for his brother, Gene Banks, at Little Apple where he gave lessons. Earl was co-owner of Deer Ridge Golf Club and helped with the original build of the course. He continued to volunteer at the course two to three days a week until the age of 92.
Earl was a member of the American Legion #535 and a lifetime member of the AMVETS. He was also a member of the Bellville Historical Society and the Tappan Quarter Century Club.
In 1954 he married Bonnie Walters. This year they celebrated 67 years together. They had two children Debbie (Kevin) Kleer and Jeff (Karen) Banks; two grandchildren Nathan (Brieanna) Kleer and Andrea (David) Tingley; three wonderful great grandchildren Emma, Chad, and Elliot Tingley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and his brother Gene Banks. He has one living sister Bernadine Dickson.
There will be private family graveside services. In his memory, if you wish to give to the American Legion building fund or the Bellville Historical Society.
