[Obituary] Enid News - 10 August 2021
Funeral services for Phyllis (PJ) (Wells) Wedel, age 93, of Enid, will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with Rev Jim Edmison and Rev. Gail Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Phyllis was born Saturday, October 22, 1927, in Monmouth Illinois, to Joseph (Joe) and Clara (Brown) Wells, and passed away August 7, 2021. The Wells family moved to North Enid, Oklahoma, when Phyllis was 4 years of age, and later settled on a farm just outside of Lahoma, Oklahoma. Phyllis graduated from Lahoma High School going on to graduate from Phillips University. Phyllis married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Wedel, and to this union two daughters were born.
The Wedels lived in Enid where they attended St. Luke's Methodist Church. Phyllis worked at Central National Bank for a number of years. Later they moved to Woodward where Phyllis worked at Western State Hospital until her retirement. Upon their retirement the Wedels moved back to Enid in 1991. Phyllis was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are two daughters: Lynda Staples and husband Ray of Weatherford, Texas, and Sandi Brown and husband Larry of Enid, five grandchildren: Mark Brown and Tonya of Plano, Texas; ReneƩ (Staples) (Hansen) and Mark Kiesling of Weatherford, Texas; Jeanie (Brown) Martin and Matt of Enid; Loree (Staples) (Clark) and Steve Rozek of Weatherford, Texas; Kenzie (Staples) (Montgomery) Reddington and Marcus of Weatherford, Texas. She is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice (Wells) Wehrman, of Lahoma; and three nieces and five nephews, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by Kenneth, her husband of sixty-one years; her parents, Joseph and Clara Wells; one sister, Martha (Wells) Coppock of Cherokee; and one brother, Milton Wells of Lahoma.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.

The funeral for L. Kenneth Wedel, age 79, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Norman (Shorty) Unruh will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Kenneth was born October 9, 1926, in Goltry, OK to Jake J. and Edna (Johnson) Wedel, and died July 13, 2006, at home. He moved to Meno, OK at a young age and attended grade school there. He graduated from Lahoma High School in 1945. Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Wells, and to this union two children were bom.
They lived in Enid where Kenneth was employed by West Side Feed Store and Safeway. He lived in Oklahoma City, Kingfisher, and Woodward while employed by Safeway and retired after 20 years. He then worked for the State of Oklahoma for 17 years. Kenneth and Phyllis moved back to Enid in 1991.
Surviving are Phyllis, his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Lynda Staples and husband Ray of Weatherford, TX, and Sandra Brown and husband Larry of Enid; five grandchildren, Mark Brown and Tonya of Plano, TX, Rene (Staples) Hansen and Tim of Weatherford, TX, Jeanie (Brown) Martin and Matt of Enid, Loree (Staples) Clark and Shawn of Peaster, TX, and Kenzie (Staples) Montgomery and Ben of Lubbock, TX; 10 great-grandchildren, Sarah and Samantha Brown, Colton and Jake Hansen, Jessica and Katelyn Martin, Elizabeth and Jarrett Clark and Benjamin and Brant Montgomery.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arnold. He was a friend to many and will be missed by all who know him.
