Aged Plaingrove Woman is Dead
Mrs. Margaret Downs Maxwell Passes Away at 81 Years of Age - Plaingrove News
Plaingrove, Pa., May 2, - Mrs. Margaret Downs Maxwell died at 4:30 Friday afternoon at the family home, 401 East Columbus avenue, Bellefonte, Ohio. She had been suffering from bronchitis followed by pneumonia and had been ill ten days. On Thursday Mrs. Maxwell had been able to talk with callers, and she seemed no worse until Friday, when she became unconscious. Mrs. Maxwell would have reached the age of 81(sic) next June.
Margaret Downs was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Isaac and Jane Downs on June 26, 1841. The family moved to Northwood when she was a young woman and there she was united in marriage on May 4th, 1871 with Robert Maxwell. The home was made in Lawrence county, Pennsylvania, but after the husband’s death in 1881, the home was discontinued there, the mother and the two children, John and Tillie, moving to Bellefontaine.
Mars. Maxwell had been a member of the United Presbyterian church for many years. She was an earnest Christian woman; always kind, considerate and helpful.
Beside the son and daughter named, there is another daughter, Mary, who is a school teacher in Pittsburgh.
The sisters of the deceased are Miss Sue Downs of Ben Avon, Pa., Mrs Milligan Creighton, Bellecenter, Mrs. John McKirahan, Northwood. The brothers and sisters gone before are Hosack and Henry Downs and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson and Mrs. Mary Jane Speer. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of the Rev. G. L. Brown, pastor, in charge. Burial in the Bellefontaine cemetery.
