Listed as a farmer (35, NY) with his wife Clarissa Allen (26, VT), son Walter (1, NY) and sister Loama in 1850.
In 1860 Heman (46, VT) is listed next to his brother Thaddeus in Chateaugay, as a farmer with his wife Clarasa (36, VT) and children Walter (12), Mary J. (9), Esther (7), and Eliza (5).
In 1870 he is still a farmer (59, VT) with Clarissa (46, VT) and Walter (21), Mary J. (19), Esther (17), and Anna E. (15). They owned land in Chateaugay until 1873.
By 1880 Heman had moved back to Plattsburgh, is living next to Elias' children in the census and was listed as a basket maker (67, VT) with Clarisa (70, VT) and son Walter (28, NY) and grandson Franklin (7, NY); listed on the same page as his brother Reuben.
He is widowed (87, VT) and living with his daughter Ann Johnson (45, NY) also widowed in 1900.
There is a headstone for them in Plattsburgh but no date of death for Heman. Clarissa died Apr. 25, 1883 AE. 59 yrs & 3 mos
