Misc. Notes
My guess is that his middle name is William.
His marriage was performed by S. Holmes, Justice of the Peace at the home of Edward & Sarah Wright (Conrow) Hance. Sarah was the daughter of Luke Conrow and may have been descended from Isaac & Elinor Wright Conrow who settled in Little Egg Harbor which was at the junction of Burlington, Glouchester and Monmouth Co's at the time.
The 1830 census, just after their marriage, lists no John Conrow. However the record for his mother and step-father, Levi Conrow shows:
male 1=20-30, 1=50-60 fem 1=5-10, 1=20-30, 1=40-50
which appears that they were still living with his mother. It is uncertain whose daughter the 5-10 girl is!
In 1840 he is listed as John W. Conrow with:
Males 1<5, 1=5/10, 1=10/15, and John=30/40 Fem 1<5, 1=5/10, and Mary=30/40
This indicates that there may be an older brother and sister before Daniel, unless the teenage male is hired help.
He was listed as a farmer, age 49, born in New Jersey in 1850. They had 7 children and 2 laborers (one being Mary's brother - Stephen Vanote) in the home along with his mother, Deborah.
In April 1853 he bought 104 Acres of land from Garret R. Wikoff for $5,826.24. The land was bounded on one side by Ludlow Woolley, and the deed was witnessed by James J. Conover.
In 1860 he and his wife are listed with son, Daniel as the head of household, a farmer with $10,000 of land and $7,500 property. Some of the other children are also living with them. On 1 Apr 1866 he bought 95 Ac from Brazilla Parker for $13,000 in Ocean Twp. On 31 Mar 1868 he bought 10 Ac from William Taylor for $360 in Ocean Twp. In 1870 he is listed as age 69, a farmer with $15,000 of land and $1,200 of pers property. His children, John, Alice and Deborah are living with him, but his wife Mary had died. Also living with them was Samuel VanNote, who was listed with them in 1860 as well. Next door was the family of William VanNote (b. 1821), wife Martha and their 2 children. His estate was renounced by his sons Daniel V., Luke and John. Each of his heirs received $98
