1850 census lists him as 18.
He is listed with his widowed father in 1855, single age 23 and born in PA, with sisters Lydia and Jane.
It appears that they lived together and she had children before they were married.
In 1860, John (28, PA) and Maria (30, NY) are listed in Litchfield, PA with their daughter Elizabeth (1, PA), as well as her sons - Frank Wiggins (10, NY) and Marcus Bradley (12, NY) using her maiden name).
His draft registration in Jun 1863 at Nichols lists him as age 32 and married.
Served as Private in Independent Battery NY Vol. Lt. and Co. B 14th New York Regt. (Aug 1864 - Aug 1865). John’s enlistment record, on the same day and just before that of Frank Wiggins(1849, Tioga Co) lists John’s father as Henry his occupation as a carpenter and his birth as 1829, PA.
There is a marriage record for them in Owego in 1864, after all of their children were born.
1865 census lists him as a carpenter born in PA age 36, in the Army. His wife Mariah (43) born Delaware Co NY (had 4 children) with only Frank (16, Tioga NY) and Betty (6, PA) listed with them. It also lists Frank as having formerly been in the military.
John is listed in 1870 as a farmer (40, PA) with $2,000 land, $600 property, with his wife Mariah (46, NY) and dau Betty (11). Also her son Mark Bradley (21, NY).
[Obituary] Owego Gazette - 1 Apr 1875
“John Wiggins died Tuesday last week. He was a millwright - injured at the Central Ave grist mill on Monday of last week.”
The cemetery record lists his name, date of death, military service and age as 46.
His wife was listed as a widow in 1880 census. She claimed pension benefits in 1890 after his death, while living in Nichols, Tioga Co, NY.

Listed as Maria (30, NY) in 1860, with husband John and children Frank (10, NY) and Elizabeth (1, PA) Wiggins, plus her son Marcus Bradley (12, NY).
Also in 1860, Maria’s daugher Alice (7) and son Marcus (13) were listed with her widowed mother Elizabeth Bradley in Nichols NY.
Then listed as Mariah in 1865 and 1870 with husband John and children; Betty (11) and Mark Bradley (21). The 1865 census says Mariah (43) was born in Delaware Co NY (and had 4 children) with only Frank (16, Tioga NY) and Betty (6, PA) listed with them.
Listed as Maria, a widow (58) in 1880, born in Delaware Co, father - MA, mother - Ireland. Listed as Mariah with her daughter Betty (21) in Nichols, Tioga Co, NY in 1890, when she was listed in the Civil War veterans special census.
