Records of his son, Silas, say that he was born in England and Germany; those of Card file and a family letter from one of Henry's children says he was born in New Jersey; and census records say Conn. and New York. New Jersey had been a part of Conn. so that may be why some census say born in New Jersey and others Conn.............
History of Hanover Township (PA) says he arrived before 1799; lived on six-rod road below Hoover Hill on the Middle Road; married Hannah Hoover; was an iron maker at the forge in Nanticoke; went up the river to New York about 1833 or 1834. It also lists his 8 children.
1800 census lists: male 2 < 10, 1=26-45; female 1=26-45
1810 census lists: male 1< 10, 1=10-16, 1=26-45; female 2 < 10, 1=26-45 he is listed as a laborer.
1820 census shows: male 2 < 10, 1=16-18, 2=19-26, 1>45; female 1 < 10, 3=10-16, 1=26-45
he is listed as being engaged in manufacturing.
1830 census shows: male 1=10-15, 1 50-60; female 1=10-15, 1=50-60
1840 census shows: male 1=20-30, 1=60-70; female 1=60-70
1850 census lists him as age 76, a farmer with $500 of land born in CT. with his wife Barbary, age 70. Listed with son, Geo W. Wiggins, born in New York. Also, another Silas Wiggins (son) nearby in Barton Twp in 1850, born in New York.
1855 census lists: Silas Wiggins (81) b. NJ in Tioga Co 20 yrs. Barbara Wiggins (76) wife, b. NJ in Tioga Co 20 yrs. On July 30th, 1855 he and his wife Barbara deeded 25 Acres (which they bought from John Redmond Coxe in 1835) to his son George W. Wiggins and wife Eliza in exchange for building a house on the property and caring for them (the parents) for the rest of their lives in a respectable manner. Should they fail to do so, the property would revert if the parents were living or be subject to the county Judge. Deed recorded 18 Jan, 1858. The Tioga Co Card File lists his death on 29 Apr 1859 at age 84 yrs, 10 mos, 5 days and buried in Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery on Rte 282 out of Nichols, T. of Nichols. Silas was the last of his children to die (in 1901)!
