[Obituary] Cape Cod Times - 14 January 2024
Ransom Brown Conrow passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024, with his loving wife Claire by his side just minutes away from his 95th birthday.
According to a newspaper report, little Brownie at the tender age of 9 months, left the United States on the S.S. Ventura taking his parents and older brother Bobby to reside in the uniquely fascinating continent of Australia. Ransom enjoyed growing up in a beautiful area of Sydney. 27 years after graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science degree he returned to the United States where there were more opportunities for employment as an industrial chemist. After earning his Master of Science degree at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH he worked as a development chemist at Carbide and Carbon Chemical Co. in Charleston, WV.
An opportunity arrived for new challenging work at Lederle Laboratories, a division of American Cyanamid Co. in Pearl River, NY where he worked for 29 years. As a research chemist, Brownie was co-inventor on 65 patents and co-author on 12 publications. That is where he also found the love of his life Claire Maulucci whom he married on September 10, 1966. It was the beginning of a full life of love and contentment for 57 years.
Brownie was an enthusiastic tennis player. In retiring, he also enjoyed wood working, photography, listening to classical music especially the piano, and reading biographies and history. Nine years after his retirement, he and Claire moved to Cape Cod. He enjoyed numerous trips with his loving wife, best friend, and life’s partner. Among the most memorable, of which, were the visits with relatives and friends both in this country and Australia.
Ransom is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 wonderful years Claire Conrow. He also leaves his brother Jamie Conrow of New South Wales, Australia; sister-in-law Audrey Conrow of Victoria, Australia; sister-in-law Sheila Maulucci of Manchester, NJ; many nieces and nephews throughout America, and nieces and nephews all of New South Wales.
