Early Settlers of Kings County - Bergen - p. 77 - "Took the oath of allegiance in Flatlands in 1687 as a native; mem. of R.D. church of Fld in 1677. April 27, 1701 he bought of his step-mother Jannetje Monfort and the other heirs of Pieter Monfort, Pieter's farm at the Wallabout, to which he probably removed. He also appears to have owned lands in Brooklyn in 1704, as per rec of said town. No further trace. Signed his name Garret Counover in 1702."
