His birth certificate (in his daughter's possession) and family knowledge places his birth as 27 Oct, while the Cypress Lawn records erroneously state 29 Oct. He was listed as a machinist at the shipyards, living with his parents in the 1920's. Harold supplied the info for his father’s death certificate in 1934, and was living at 245 Clinton Park at the time (next door to them). Harold A. and Helen Samuels are listed at 241 Clinton Park, next to Elizabeth, his mother, in the 1951 and 1953 San Francisco City Directories. He was listed as Supt of State Harbor Comn. His obituary says he was superintendent for the San Francisco Port Authority for 22 years (employee for 30 yrs). He retired to Bethel Island in 1962. Was a member of Balder Lodge #393 and F&AM. Services were held at Gantner-Felder-Kenny chapel at 1965 Market St., burial in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Maple South #683. Survived by wife, Helen and dau Shirley Holmlund. Helen was living at Rt 2, Box 340, Oakley, CA at the time.

SAMUELS, Harold A. - In Oakley, Calif., Dec 5, 1965, dearly beloved husband of Helen T. Samuels and devoted father of Shirley Holmlund; a native of San Francisco, aged 65 years. A retired Superintendent of Tugs and Dredges for the S. F. Port Authority for 22 years, and a member of the Balder Lodge No. 393, F. & A.M.
Funeral Services Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Gantner-Felder-Kenny Chapel, 1965 Market Street at Duboce Ave., under the auspices of Balder Lodge No. 393, F. & A.M. Interment, Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
Not far from his headstone in the cemetery is one for Charles I. Samuels, b. 25 July 1894, d. 10 Oct 1968. If he is a relative, he would be a cousin of Harold's and would have to be a son of Wm's brother, James.
