Marcia Mathews Henning
November 23, 1919 - April 19, 2017
Resident of Walnut Creek, CA
Born in San Luis Obispo, but raised in Oakland, Marcia graduated from Oakland High School in December 1937. On January 1, 1942 she married William Henning, also of Oakland, moving to Orinda in 1951, and to Rossmoor/Walnut Creek in 1990. She danced for First Lady Mrs. Herbert Hoover as a child and modeled for the Red Cross blood drive campaign during WWII. Though she was primarily devoted to her family, she found time for substantial efforts in arts and crafts, sewing, home remodeling projects, and her flourishing garden. Her children and grandchildren enjoy the legacy: personalized quilts, paintings, sketches and cuttings from her garden. She was an endlessly curious person and had a creative and inventive take on most everything. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, William, in 2011. She is survived by: her children Bonnie Hall of Lafayette, Michael Henning of Alameda & Mathew Henning of Oakland; plus six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
