Misc. Notes
Bud Hauser said the family story was that John's father was named Jung and migrated from Norway to Ireland, where the family name was changed to Young.
Immigrated to the U.S. in 1873 according to daughter Elizabeth's 1900 census data, or 1860/65/70 from dau Lillie in 1900 - 1920.
1880 census lists John Young (62, IRE) a farmer and indexed as Yong; wife Mary (60, IRE) whose parents were both born in Ireland as well, and a granddaughter Mary E. Yong (4, NY-father Ireland, mother NY). This is assumed to be the Mary Elizabeth (May) who was living with Wm & Elizabeth Samuels in 1900 and raised as their daughter - and is most probably the daughter of John & Mary's son.
Following his wife’s death in New Jersey in 1880, he seems to have moved to San Francisco, along with his daughter’s family, as it appears he is listed there as a registered voter on Powell St in 1882, where it shows his 25 Jul 1882 Naturalization in San Francisco. He still shows at the Powell St address in the 1885 San Francisco directory and 1888 voter registration.
David Drake said he is buried in the Murphy plot (dau's second husband) with the Lindo family at Holy Cross Cemetery. However, this seems to not be true, based on Murphy plot records.
