Misc. Notes
I had her birth as Dec 1898 and death as 16 May 1983, but the burial records at Cypress Lawn and State Death index state 19 Dec 1899 - 16 March 1983. Since both the 1900 and 1910 census show her birth as 1898, I have kept it as such.
She was the youngest daughter. Living with her husband, Dr. David Drake at 4096 18th in San Francisco in 1920 Census. The 1930 census shows here with husband David (41, KY) and son David (9, CA), and lists her as first married at age 20.
In the 5 June 1932 edition of the Oakland Tribune, the following article appeared on the bottom of page 10:
Divorce Suit Filed On Date of Wedding
San Francisco, June 4, - A divorce action today marked the thirteenth wedding anniversary of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel David Drake, 8991 Seventeenth street, who were married in Oakland in 1919. Mrs. Drake charges Dr. Drake, wealthy physician and drug store owner, with cruelty. Besides a divorce the wife asks for $500 a month alimony. She says that her husband has an income of $1000 to $1800 a month. Married name still Drake in 1934 (her father's obit).
Listed as the head of household in the family home in 1940 as Ruth M. Drake (41, CA) divorced. Living with her is her brother Herbert Samuels (43, CA) a Barge captain for the Oil company. Also listed is Patrick J. Daly (38, IRE) who is also shown as a brother?
She apparently married Ernest Posey sometime after 1940 and they were together thru 1948 according to the city directory, but he died later that year back in Arkansas, apparently where his family was, since that is where his military headstone was delivered to the Posey cemetery.
Ruth Posey is listed in the 1950 cenus as widowed and living with her mother.
After her parent's deaths, and that of May in the mid '50's, the rest of the family decided to give the family home to her. Married name Posey in 1951 when her mother died, and when she received the family home on Clinton Park in 1956. It is now in possession of her son, via her trust. She was only married to Ernest Posey for a few years before he died. Her son, David said he had her placed in the mausoleum at Cypress Lawn.
