Alta May Moats was born in Ohio, March 12, 1875. Her family moved to Emerson, Iowa when she was six years of age. With the exception of two years that she lived in Kansas, her life from that time was lived in Iowa.
On October 1, 1896, she was united with E. Carey Holmes and spent her married life in Adams County.
She united with the Emerson Baptist Church December 30, 1894 transferring her church affiliation to the Prescott Methodist Church during the pastorate of Rev. Winterbourne. She remained a faithful member as long as her health permitted.
Her husband preceded her in death many years ago, as did all her other near relatives. She leaves to mourn her passing one grand-nephew, Bill Woods and family of Des Moines; two cousins, Mrs. Vandarsdale and son Jack and family of Red Oak; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Holmes of Texas; several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 25, 1965 at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church in Prescott, with Rev. S. E. Sterrett officiating. Music was by Mrs. Ray Campbell, Mrs. Glen Tucker, Mrs. Leslie Jensen. Pall bearers were Lyle Potting, Harvey Rhine, Marvin Smith, Max Dagger, LaVerne McCarty, and Brad Outhier. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
