William Fidler is the son of Nathan Fidler and Hannah Powell - dau of Samuel Powell of Bethel Twp, Fulton Co, PA, descended from Howel The Good, a famous law giver and a most distinguished Welsh Prince. Nathan Fidler was son of Timothy Fidler of Hopewell, New Jersey died Fulton Co PA 1837; son of John Fidler, De Ffiddelaer of Ffthdlier, died Hopewell, New Jersey Oct 1759 and Sarah Smith [dau of Sarah (Stout), dau of John Stout of Nottingham, England and Andrew Smith, son of Penelopy and Richard Smith, son of John Smith killed by Indians 1690, son of John Smith from Hemstead, Long Island to Hopewell, New Jersey.]” John Fidler was son of Barnard Fidler of Woobridge, New Jersey who married Elizabeth cir 1680.
William was administrator of his father’s estate. He bought his father’s home of brick, built 1818, and lived there. In 1850 census his property was worth $6,000. He worked hard and always had stomach trouble like his mother Hannah Powel. Very systematic, punctual and orderly, he ate and said prayers when hands of the clock were exactly on figures six and twelve morning, noon, and evening. In his later years he sat much by the fireplace, watching carefully to keep it going and often fell asleep by the fire. Both were very religious and Methodist. He had long golden-white hair. He died of apoplexy.
