Sergio Baldocchi 07/01/1923 - 11/05/2011
Son of Italy, adopted son of the USA, he enjoyed dual citizenship. Sergio was born to Ada and Alberto Baldocchi in Lucca, Italy. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice Baldocchi nee Marchi. Fiercely proud father of Albert Baldocchi, Yvonne Richmond and Nancy Cooper. Doting Nonno to Adam, Alyssa and Katie Baldocchi, Alex and Daniel Richmond and Joe Cooper. Affectionate father-in-law to Anne Minor Baldocchi, Randy Richmond and Bob Cooper. He leaves sisters Luigina and Clary Baldocchi and his brother and sister-in-law Alvaro and Elisa Clara Baldocchi all of Lucca. His brother-in-law Vito Marchi and nephew Michael Marchi predeceased him, but he is survived by five nieces and nephews on the Marchi side as well as cousins on the Baldocchi side, including Marcello Baldocchi, who to him represented the family he left in Italy, and his cousin Lola's children Larry Mori and Donna Burcio for whom he was often a surrogate father. Sergio emigrated in 1951 from Lucca, where he had a dental office and lab, to SF knowing no English but with an incredible talent as a dental technician. After working for various dental labs in SF and Dental Associates in So SF, in 1977 he took under his wing young Gary Della Maggiora, and they opened Alfa Dental Lab on Ocean Ave. Sergio's expertise and talents have been much respected in the dental field. He was a member of the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club since his arrival in SF. After retirement he enjoyed getting together with friends in North Beach. He loved walking with Alice around Stow Lake or along Ocean Beach. He considered his home a precious possession, enjoying the view of the ocean and watching ships entering and leaving the Golden Gate especially when his condition prevented him from leaving the house. Never happier than when his children and grandchildren gathered around him, Sergio passed from this life surrounded by his beloved family. He died of complications from multiple myeloma.
