KEITH HUNTER
Keith Hunter, of Kincaid, SK, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Gravelbourg, SK on September 9, 2012.
Keith Stewart Hunter was born November 14, 1933, in the Fillmore area of Saskatchewan, to Stewart and Martha Hunter. In 1947 his family transferred to Mankota so his father could manage the Co-op Bulk. Keith entered the workforce at an early age driving a team and rack for Murray Switzer during threshing time; he had the oldest and biggest rack. He then went to work for Benny Wagner and his dray. In 1954 Keith worked in Kincaid for R.J. White Construction, working on the hospital and Ken Lovo's house. Keith married Phyllis Wells on November 5, 1955 and their first son Terry was born on August 15, 1956. Terry died tragically on April 2, 1977. Their second son Brian Lee was born on March 6, 1961. Brian is married to Barbara Wilson and they have two daughters, Teri and Holly. In the late 1950's Keith began driving truck for Wagners transport in Mankota. In 1960 Wagners sold to Freightways, so the family moved to Assiniboia and Keith continued driving for the company. During this time Keith played drums for the Southern Playboys Orchestra and he also played hockey, defense mostly. Over the years Keith played for the Mankota Mets, LaFleche Flyers, Gravelbourg SAHA, the Assiniboia Newmooners and finally the Kincaid Maroons. In 1967 Keith moved the family back to Kincaid where he went to work for the Department of Highways for a couple of years and then with the R.M. of Pinto Creek No. 75 as a patrol operator for 18 years. His wife Phyllis passed away on December 25, 1985 from cancer.
Predeceased by his son Terry and his wife Phyllis, Keith is survived by his son, Brian and wife Barbara and their daughters Teri and Holly; his sisters, Della (Jim) Bryson and Lorraine Mooney; special friend Ella Lott and her sons, Jeremy and Michael and grandchildren Delee Lott, Jessie and Jordan Hippert as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Celebration of Keith's life was held Friday, September 14, 2012, in the Kincaid Community Rink, Kincaid, SK. Ruby Sayers officiated. Interment followed in the Kincaid Cemetery.
