His first wife, Elizabeth died before 1835 (maybe in childbirth?), since he was remarried to Mary Kline on 1 Nov 1835 in Henry Co, KY; plus Elizabeth’s heirs were referenced in her father’s 1838 will.
It appears that he is listed as Samuel Black (46 TN) and wife Rebecca (39 KY) in the 1850 census for Clifty Twp, Bartholomew Co, IN just two listings below his first wife’s sister Letitia and family. They had five sons - James E., William N., Isaac E., Robert M., and Adam A.; and it has been assumed that the first two are children of Elizabeth and the remainder from Rebecca, with Isaac and Robert being sons of her first husband Robert Elliot, in spite of being listed with the Blake surname.
In 1860 they are still listed in Clifty Twp, and Rebecca’a two Elliot boys, from next door in 1850, are now living with them and their youngest son (Adam) Allen.
