Art was shell shocked in World War I.  He also moved to Michigan and was in and out of Veterans Hospitals for some years. He is listed with his mother and brother in Michigan in 1930. He ended up in the VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1935. His sister had him transferred to the VA Hospital near Chicago sometime in the 1950s so she could visit him more easily, and he died there.
