He served in the 138th Illinois Infantry after living in Knoxville, Illinois for a short time. Married to Martha E. Nicholson in Belmont Co. on Nov 2, 1865. He died at age 46 yrs, 10 months, and 15 days and is buried next to his father, Isaac. Martha died many years after him and is buried next to him.

Census records made clear that she was raised on a farm in Wayne Twp. Belmont Co. with her parents, George P. Nicholson and Mary McNichols. Both of them were born in OH also. Martha was one of nine children, and she was born third.
She received her husband’s Civil War Pension and the last check was returned due to her death in Sept 1932. Her death certificate has her last name spelled "Willcok".
