The second document signed (in German) by Franey Stover listed him as "Capt. Geo Cooper".
On 30 March 1781 the Shenandoah Co Order Book of court records shows “George Cooper produced a Commission from Thomas Jefferson Esq. Governor of this state to the Clerk of this County which was openly read & thereupon took the oath of a Captain of the Militia of this County.”
He is included in the 1783 tax list and a 1785 list of heads of families for Strasburg and adjacent sections in Shenandoah Co enumerated by Alexander Hite. His listing shows 7 people, 1 dwelling, & 1 other building. In the list he is described as a Shoemaker.
1810 census lists his family as: male 1=10-15, 2=16-25, 1>45 fem 1=10-15, 1=16-25, 1>45
1820 census lists his family as 3 in manufacturing: male 1= 16-25, 1=26-45, 1>45 fem 2<10, 1=16-25
The census data appears to show that his wife, Catherine, died between 1815 and 1820, possibly in childbirth as she was still having children.
