Last Will and Testament of Lucy Howard:
State of Ohio, Hamilton County
Whereas Lucy Howard, late of the County of Hamilton & State of Ohio, died, leaving a last will, and testament, (a copy whereof is hereto attached) which said will, has been duly proper and admitted to Record by our Probate Court within and for the County aforesaid on the 14th day of May A.D. 1885. Know ye therefore, that the said Probate Court has granted unto Roswell F. Howard, the executor in said will named. Hereby granting to said Executor all and singular, the power necessary and by law, required, to enable him to take an inventory of, collect, all and singular, the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased: and out of the same, or each part thereof as shall come to his hands, the debts of the said deceased, and the legacies, in said will, named, to pay and discharge according to law, and to the will of said Testator, and the same fully to administer in all things as required by law. And the Court has appointed , to appraise, on oath or affirmation, all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased. In testamony wherefo, I have hereto set my hand and affixed the seal of the said Probate Court at Cincinnati this 14th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty five.

In the name of the Benevolent Father of all. Amen. I Lucy Howard, of College Hill in the County of Hamilton in the State of Ohio, do make and publish this my last will and testament.
Item 1st. It is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges, be paid out of my estate.
Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my son Roswell F. Howard, my bedstead and chairs, also my portraits of his father and portrait of his brother Solomen, and my picture of the Lincoln Family.
Item 3rd. I give and bequeath to my daughter-in-law Mary Howard, one hundred dollars.
Item 4th. I give and bequeath to my sons B.F. Howard, S.F. Howard, and Cyrus Howard, my silver tablespoons, to each one spoon, as a keepsake, having already given my sons R.F. Howard, and H.M. Howard, each one spoon. I also give and bequeath to my son Hiram M. Howard, my gold spectacles and to my son Cyrus Howard, my picture of Samuel Pruden, and my walking spectacles.
Item 5th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Pruden, my wardrobe, my silver teaspoons, my picture of Solomen and also all my Chinaware, except the mantle vases.
Item 6th. I give and bequeath one set of my mantle vases, to my granddaughter Flora Howard, and one set to my granddaughter Olive.
Item 8th. I give and bequeath to my grandson Charles F. Howard, my small cherry table and washstand: and to my grandson William S. Howard, my large bible & Hymm book, and also to my grandson Austin Howard, my Bunyans Pilgrim progress, & to my granddaughter Jennie Howard, my bed and bedding, and to my grandson Hiram M. Howard, Stocktons sermons, and to Nelson C. Howard, Walkers History of Athens County, Ohio.
Item 9th. I give and bequeath to the two children of my deceased granddaughter Marsia Doyton, the sum of fifty dollars each, to be paid to them when they arrive at the age of twenty one years, or at the time of marriage, whichever shall first happen.
Item 10th. I give and bequeath to my son Roswell F. Howard, the sum of one thousand dollars.
Item 11th. I give and bequeath to the Board of Foreign missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church the sum of one hundred dollars, for the promotion of the Gospel in foreign lands.
Item 12th. I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my personal estate after the payment of my just debts and charges and all the foregoing legacies to Roswell F. Howard, upon trust, to place the same at interest and from time to time to appropriate the interest & income arising there from in such proportions as he may judge expected to the maintenance & support of Lucy F. Welsh, during her natural life. I also give and devise my house and lot where I now reside situate in College Hill in Hamilton County, Ohio, to Roswell F. Howard, upon trust, to take and receive during the natural life of Lucy F. Welsh, the rents & profits arising there from and therewith make all necessary repairs and pay all taxes & other necessary charges and expenses in & about the same & after all such payment deducted shall at such times annually & in such proportions as he may judge expedient appropriate the residue of such rents and profits also to the maintenance and support of the said Lucy F. Welsh, during her natural life, provided nevertheless that if the interest arising from said personal estate where invested as aforesaid shall prove insufficient for the comfortable support & maintenance of the said Lucy F. Welsh, my trust aforesaid shall expend so much of the principal of my personal estate aforesaid as may be requisite for that purpose, and after the death of the said Lucy Welsh, shall sell & convey the real estate aforesaid for such price as he shall deem proper in fee single and the whole proceeds of the sale thereof together whith all my personal estate then remaining unconsecured to distribute to Roswell F. Howard, Hiram M. Howard, Lucy Pruden and Cyrus Howard, equally, share and share alike. I devise that no appraisement nor sale of my personal property be made, and that the Probate Court direct the ommission of the same, in pursuance of the statute, I hereby revoke all former wills by me made. I nominate and appoint my son Roswell F. Howard, Executor of this my last will & testament and request that no bond or security be required of him as such Executor.
My testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 17th day of March AD 1885.
