Charles is listed as C. G. Moats, a bicycle builder (20, IL) rooming with the Trout family in Denver in 1900. He was married to Jessie A. MacDonald on20 Oct 1900 in Denver, CO.
In 1910 he was living in St Joseph, MI as a machinist (30, IL) in a boat factory, with his wife Jessie (29, IN) and son Harold (8, IL). By 1920 he and wife Jessie had moved to Chicago, where he was working as a conductor for the railroad.
He was divorced or widowed, since by 1930 he was remarried to Nellie L. Kinney (42, IA). They were living in Washington state, where he worked as a Pullman Conductor (50, IL) for the railroad, along with niece Edith M. Kinney and his mother-in-law, Martha E. Kinney. In 1942 he was still living in Olympia, WA with his wife Nellie when he registered for the WWII Draft. His wife Nellie lived to be 105, and died in 1993.
