His obit says that in 1837 he began life as a pilot on Lake Champlain ferries, and worked in this very responsible position for 37 years.
He is listed (33, VT) in Chateaugay in 1850 as a farmer with $100 land. Along with his wife Sherry (31, NY) and son Amos 4.
In 1860 his is listed as 44 with $1200 of land and $760 of personal property. His wife Zena is 41 and born in NY. 6 Children Amos thru Charlotte are listed with them.
Listed in Burke during 1875 state census as a pilot (57) on Lake Champlain; with his wife Zeruah (56) Amos B. (29), Lory A. (21), Augustus (19), and Susa (17).
Burke Town Historian, Yvonne Spinner, found death records for William, son of Nathan, who died 19 Sep 1920; and Augustus, son of Nathan, who died 13 Dec 1916.
