Lois Jean Nelson Wells, 82, of Greenwood, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012. The daughter of Lewis A. and Alma S. (Heaton) Nelson, Lois was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Owen County.
After graduating from Indiana University in Bloomington, she worked as a music teacher in Lawrence County. Lois later became a leasing coordinator with Indiana National Bank, and she retired from the bank.
Survivors include her husband, John K. Wells of Greenwood; five children, Susan J. (Don) Harris of Franklin, Nelson (Kim) Wells of Whiteland, Leanne Johnson of Bloomington, Alan (Kathi) Wells of Walkersville, Md., and Brian (Becky) Wells of Bargersville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Needy.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.

He is listed as born in May 1928, based on 1930 census. But the John Wells listed with his widowed mother in 1940 was only reported as 5 yrs old? The record is faint, hard to read and incomplete, also listing her as 46 rather than 52; so the information may have been given by a neighbor, etc.

John K. Wells, 84, of Greenwood, passed away June 29, 2012. The son of Simpson H. and Audry M. Woods Wells, John was born April 29, 1928 in Bedford, Indiana.
John served in the U.S. Army during WW II, earning the WW II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was a member of American Legion Post 205 in Franklin, Indiana and was a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. John was an avid IU sports fan, not only watching but attending games when he could. He loved the lake life and spending time with his family.
John retired from Sears, where he worked in retail sales.
John is survived by sons, Nelson (Kim) Wells of Whiteland, Alan (Kathi) Wells of Walkersville, Maryland and Brian (Becky) Wells of Bargersville; daughters, Susan J. (Don) Harris of Franklin and Leanne Johnson of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jean Nelson Wells.
Private family services with military honors will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
