He was born 25 Jan 1899 in Tama, Iowa, the son of Lester E. E. Hill and Edith Lee Hill. He attended schools in Tama, Iowa; Long Pine, Neb.; Rapid City, SD; Norfolk and Chadron, Neb.; and Lead, SD.
Mr. Hill was admitted to practice law before the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1933. He worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad before he retired after 50 years of service in 1963, when he moved to Topeka.
Mr. Hill had served three years on the city commission in Rapid City, SD, where he also was part owner of a newspaper. He served in Pershing’s 147th Field Artillery in France during World War I.
Mr. Hill was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion, past district commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 3, a member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a charter member and past department commander of Post No. 1273 of the VFW in Rapid City, SD and past department commander of Veterans of World War I Barracks No. 113.
Mr. Hill was a member of Lodge No. 17 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine and the Topeka High 12 Club. He was past state president of the Sons of the American Revolution in Nebraska and a past registrar of the Kansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He also was past president of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He also was past state president of the Huguenot Society of Kansas, a member of the Mayflower Descendants in Kansas, the Topeka Genealogical Society, Shawnee County Historical Society and Kansas State Historical Society and the Westerners.
He married Sarah Annette Moats on 1 Oct 1925 in Lead, SD. She died 1 March 1985.
Charles Wyman Hill, 98, Topeka, died Tuesday 9 Sept 1997 at a Topeka Hospital. Survivors include a sister, May Cunningham, Amarillo, Texas; a son, Charles E. Hill, Topeka; a grandson; and two great grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at the Panwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
