Aged Citizen Dead - Anson Hill
The death of Anson Hill, which occurred at his home north of the village at 3:30 o'clock Sunday morning, removes from the community one who was held in high regard. For the past year or more Mr. Hill had been in declining health and for several weeks he had been confined to the house, the infirmities incident to old age being th cause of death.
Anson Hill was born in Georgia, Vt, July 26, 1835, and when a child of three years of age he came to Chateaugay with his parents, who settled on a farm on the Chasm Road. When a young man he married Esther White, and shortly thereafter the young couple moved to the farm where they passed the remainder of their lives, Mrs. Hill preceding her husband in death by a few brief years.
The deceased was an active and ardent Democrat, and was always ready to work for the party's interests, this adherence to the party being rewarded by the bestowal upon him of numerous offices of public trust. He was pleasant and genial man to meet, and a neighbor and friend who was willing and eager to extend such aid and assistance as was within his power in time of need. His long residence in the community made him widely known and his death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends.
The only surviving member of the family is an adopted son Wayland. Funeral services were held at his late home on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. S. Eaton officiating.
