He was a veteran of the Civil War having served with Company M, 14th New York Heavy Artillery. He enlisted in Burke, NY, on 12/30/1863, and was mustered out on 8/26/1865 in Washington DC.
About 1866, he married Adelaide Pond and they had at least 3 sons, John, Paul, and George; and 2 daughters, Alice and Ruth.
