Paul was in the Josephinum College in Ohio, studying to be a priest in the 1940s. Capt and Pilot, U S Army Corps WW 2, Paul, was shot down over Germany in 1944, taken prisoner of War and sent to Luft-Stalag 111 and later moved to Stalag 7 and freed by General Patton in 1945. He worked for the Haddon Craftsman in Scranton. He married Helen Sporer, and his sister Ruth Deininger married Paul Sporer who was Helen's brother. Ray Deininger is Paul Deininger's Godchild.

Paul G. Deininger, 95, a lifelong South Scranton resident, died Monday at Geisinger Mountain View Care Center. He was the husband of the former Helen Sporer for 49 years until her death in 1994.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Carl and Esther Klotz Deininger, he was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church until its closure. He then became a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish. He attended elementary school at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Scranton, followed by six years at the Josephinum Pontifical College in Columbus, Ohio. Paul was a captain and pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War ll, having been shot down over Germany in 1944, taken prisoner of war and sent to Luft-Stalag III. Later he was moved to Stalag 7 and freed by General Patton in 1945. He worked as a bookbinder for Haddon Craftsmen for 42 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Diane Weiland and husband, David, Moosic; Joyce Kelly and husband, Patrick, Sedona, Ariz.; and Mari Over and husband, Brian, Fayettville, Pa.; a sister, Marian Murphy, New Jersey; and his longtime close companion, Josephine Williams, Scranton; eight grandchildren, John and Jeff Kasaczun, Erin, Kelly and Meghan Kunchai, Alissa, Michael and Nathan Over; two great-grandchildren, John Paul Kasaczun and Mali Kunchai; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Kasaczun, in 1998; and two sisters, Joan McKetchnie and Ruth Sporer.
The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
