Once of seven children - son of Joseph Wood (1794-1833/35) and Mary A. “Polly” Ulrey-Wood-Evers (1799-1865).
He is listed as age 24 in 1850, 35 in 1860 and 49 in 1870.
He served as Private in Co. E of the 118th Ohio Infantry.
In 1890 he was admitted to the US Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Marion, Grant Co, IN.
Samuel's mother and his wife are buried in Twibell Cem, Blackford Co, IN; while he is buried in the Marion Nat'l Cemetery.

He has a brother John (b. 1818) who lived in Knox Co OH, but left before 1880 as he went to Iowa and then MO where he died and is buried.
