Nancy and her sister Malinda were living with their Uncle Isaac in Illinois in 1870, following the death of their parents.
Nancy L. Wells was married in Illinois to Daniel Speer of Wayne Co, IL. They are listed in the 1880 census for Zif Twp, Wayne Co, IL with 4 children, his brother John and her sister (Malinda) Jane. They moved back to Bartholomew Co, IN later that same year and were listed there in 1900, with 6 of their 7 children surviving. They are listed in 1910 with only daughter Fannie at home, as Daniel and Nancy Spears.
To them were born seven children - Ida May, Maggie, Mary J., Dora, James Wm, Minnie and Fannie. She died in 1913 and Daniel Speer died in September 1925. Nancy, like her mother, was a good neighbor and excellent mother.
Children:
Ida May Speer married Frank Carson. To them were born two children - Cecil and Earl. Earl married Jessie Silvers, of Columbus, IN. To them were born two children - Martha Ann and Lois Ellen. May Speer Carson died in 1898.
Maggie Speer also married Frank Carson after the death of her sister May Speer. To them were born two children - Dorrence and Dale. Dorrence Carson married Esta May Essex.
Mary J. (Polly) Speer (May 1876) married O. P. Suinn of Elizabethtown, IN. They had one daughter, Mary Evelyn. Mary Speer Suinn died in 1919.
Dora D. Speer (Feb 1879) married C. N. Clapp, of Scipio, IN. To them was born one son - Stanley. Stanley married Elnora Rittman.
James Wm. Speer (Nov 1880) married Edith Fulton. To them were born seven children - Lloyd, Margaret, William Robert, Weldon E., Martha, Jane, Elizabeth and Raymond. The last three are dead.
Minnie G. (Dollie) Speer (Mar 1884) married Harry Schafer, of Bartholomew Co, IN. They have one daughter, Mildred. She married Cressie C. Miller.
Fannie A. Speer (Jul 1887) married Will Connell. They had one son, James.

In the 1900 Indiana census he is listed as born in Apr 1856, age 44 and married 30 yrs, which is obviously wrong.
In 1910 he is listed as age 74 and retired, with his wife Nancy of 39 yrs and daughter Fannie. Son James and his family are listed nearby.
He is listed as Daniel Spear age 81 and a widower in 1920, living with the family of his daughter Fannie Connell, not far from the family of his son James.
