[Obituary] Olney Daily Mail - Wednesday evening, Dec 4, 1957
MRS. RUTH HENRY, 30, RN, KILLED IN U.S. 50 COLLISION
A violent highway collision during last night’s snowfall took the life of Mrs. Ruth Henry, 30, wife of Chester Henry of the Claremont vicinity, as she was enroute to her work at Richland Memorial Hospital, where she was a registered nurse. Mrs. Henry was the mother of four small children.
The accident occurred four miles east of Olney on U.S. 50 at about 11 o’clock last night. According to investigating officers, the 1954 Chevrolet, driven by Mrs. Henry was proceeding west. The highway was slippery and it was snowing at the time. It is believed that Mrs. Henry, who was alone in the car, lost control on the ice. The car, which was following a semi-trailer truck, collided head on with another semi-trailer truck, which was proceeding east with a load of goods. The truck, driven by August Henneken, 46, of Overland, Mo., belongs to Western Trucking Co. Henneken was not injured.
Mrs. Henry was rushed by ambulance to Richland Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The car was totally demolished. The truck was jackknifed by the impact and went onto the shoulder. The accident was investigated by State Trooper Joe Miller of Olney, assisted by Trooper Arkie Cessna of Sumner, along with Richland Coroner Dr. Lawrence J. Knox and Deputy Coroner Robert Schaub.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Henry is survived by four small children, Sharon Kay, Stephen, Michael and Roy.
Also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William T. Wells of the Gallagher vicinity; four brothers, Walter, Virgil and David Wells, all of Hammond, Ind., and Roy B. Wells of Olney; three sisters, Mrs. Lola M. Wade of Noble, Mrs. C. Elizabeth Gaillard of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Jessie Greeson of Hammond.
The body is at the Schaub Funeral Home, where friends may call after 6 o’clock this evening.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Schaub Funeral Home, with Rev. Edward Dowden officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, on U.S. 50 near Claremont.
