Joseph Mulford was born at Cape May, NJ, April 24, 1776. He first married Lydia Tomlin who was born in 1783 and died Dec 15, 1801. His second marriage was to Judith Rhoda Smith, April 27, 1802. She was born April 25, 1787, her father having served in the Revolutionary War. In 1806 they with their two children Jehu, age 3, and Sarah Lemming, born Oct 1805, started for Ohio. Upon reaching Columbia near Cincinnati, Ohio, baby Sarah died July 2, 1806 and was buried at that place. They continued their journey and finally settled at Beedles Station, Near Lebanon, Warren Co, Ohio where the remainder of the family of twelve children were born. Here Joseph engaged in farming until his death July 5, 1833, living only three days after being stricken with cholera. He was buried in the Methodist graveyard at Lebanon. Joseph is said to have enlisted in the war of 1812 and that he furnished his own horse during his service.

After the death of Joseph, his widow Rhoda, married a man by the name of Uhlm. She died April 27, 1843, and was buried by the side of her first husband.
