Joseph and family moved to Polk Co, Arkansas in the early 1850's. Joseph served as County Treasurer of Polk County from 1856 to 1866. He was a farmer, a miner and owned saw mills in the area. Joseph served in Co I4th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, he was left in Arkansas when this unit moved east.
