James T. Wallace, 85, for 13 years a Venango County commissioner, died suddenly at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at his home, 618 Bacon Street, Erie. [He was the son of Hugh and Mary Dight Wallace.]
Mr. Wallace, a former resident of Utica, was appointed a county commission by Judge George S. Criswell and subsequently was elected to three terms. He was well known throughout this district.
The deceased observed his 85th birthday last Tuesday. He resided in Venango County most of his life, moving to Erie about 20 years ago.
While a resident of this county he was general sales manager for the firm which later became the International Harvester Company. Mr. Wallace was an elder in the Presbyterian church for more than 50 years, his service taking place at both Utica and Erie.
He is survived by the following children: H. Roy Wallace, Miss Helen Wallace, Mrs. John W. Ray, Erie; Mrs. Samuel G. Cochran, Croton on Hudson, N.Y.; Mrs. J.H. Kistler and Mrs. F. Earle Magee, of Oil City.

Mrs. Margaret L. Wallace, 80, wife of J.T. Wallace, former commissioner for Venango County, died at her home, 618 Bacon Street, Erie, suddenly Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Wallace was the mother of Mrs. F. Earle Magee, of Oil City, president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Women’s Clubs. Although she had been in ill health for some time, her condition was thought not to be serious. Her death came suddenly and unexpectedly.
The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Foster [Sarah Boals], of Bully Hill, she had resided in Venango County the greater part of her life. For many years she lived at Utica, and the couple moved to Erie about 20 years ago. She was a member of the first United Presbyterian Church of Erie.
Mr. Wallace, prior to 1913, served for several years as a member of the board of county commissioners for Venango County. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last March.
Mrs. Wallace leaves her husband and the following children: H. Roy Wallace, Erie; Miss Helen Wallace, at home; Mrs. J.W. Ray, Erie; Mrs. S.G. Cochran, Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; Mrs. F. Earle Magee and Mrs. L.H. Gistler, of Oil City. She also leaves one brother, B.F. Foster, of Franklin.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home, 618 Bacon Street, Erie, at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Dr. Hugh Speer, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
