Isla was previously married when she met Glenn Tallman. She had a daughter Betty Young, who was born about 1913 and married to become Betty Williams. Betty was raised by them as Glenn’s daughter.

Isla W. Tallman, a pianist and organist, died Dec. 30 in Auburn at the age of 97. Born in Howard Lake, Minn., Mrs. Tallman lived in Minnesota many years before moving to California. She lived in San Jose, Merced and Watsonville before coming to Roseville in 1984.
Mrs. Talman [sic] was a pianist and organist who played the theater organ for silent movies throughout Minnesota. She was a member of the Santa Clara Women's Club and the San Jose Patrons, and spent time entertaining people with her piano playing.
A private family service has already been held. Burial will be in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Francisco.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Williams, who died Nov. 25, 1981; and her son [sic], Glenn Tallman, who died in 1966.
Surviving are two grand-daughters, Gretchen Jurek of Auburn, and Jean Ann Williams of Half Moon Bay; two grandsons, Patrick J. Williams of Santa Clara, and Brian P. Williams of Arizona; grandson-in-law Ronald M. Jurek of Auburn; and four great-grandchildren.

He was living in Minneapolis and single when he registered for the WWI draft.
Glenn and Isla met when they were playing for silent movies in MN, mostly in the Minneapolis area. They moved to CA sometime near the end of WWII. Gretchen says they were in MN in 1942 as there is a picture of them taken there, so it had to be after that. Glenn was a drummer and moved "all over northern California" after they moved to CA.
Glenn had a dental lab in Eureka, CA. He supplemented his income as a drummer with the dental lab, for a time at least. Or maybe he supplemented his dental lab as a drummer? Gretchen said they never had very much "stuff"...never owned a home...had to be able to move to a different location to get work as drummer.
Glenn died of a heart attack in the apartment of Gretchen Jurek (step-granddaughter) in 1966; he'd had heart trouble for a while prior to that.

Glenn Tallman
Glenn P. Tallman, 70, of 2949 Magliocco Dr, died at his home suddenly Friday after an apparent heart attack. He was a native of Minnesota and moved to this area three years ago from Eureka. He had resided in that city for 25 years and operated his own dental laboratory.
Tallman was a veteran of World War I and a member of Ark Lodge, F&AM, of Minnesota and San Jose Consistory No. 9, Scottish Rite Bodies.
He was the husband of Isla W. Tallman of San Jose; father of Mrs. John A. Williams of Billings, Mont.; brother of Verona G. Tallman of San Jose and grandfather of four.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Darling-Fisher Garden Chapel. Interment will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery.
