Barbara Elizabeth Tallman, 87, died Nov. 7 in Redlands, due to Alzheimer's disease.
She was born March 19, 1920, in Elmira, N.Y., and had lived in Redlands for about 10 years since 1994.
She graduated from high school in Elmira, N.Y., in 1937 and began her career as a retail clerk during World War II. During the war she married Robert Gruhlke, who was stationed in Oakland.
She later worked as a medical assistant and lived most of her life in California before retiring to Sun City, Ariz.
She helped establish the Sun City Adventist Church, which was dedicated Jan. 15, 1994.
Later that year she came to Redlands to live near family, then moved with her granddaughter Kimberly Mackay to the Fresno area in 1999.
She returned to Redlands in 2002 to be near one of her daughters.
While in Redlands, she was a member of the Redlands Seventh-day Adventist Church.
When she was 83, she married Roland St. Pierre, who was 86, in Redlands on April 6, 2003. They were married three years before he died May 10, 2006.
Survivors include her son Bill Gruhlke of Santa Cruz; daughters Sandra Labrucherie of Santa Rosa and Sharon Cole of Redlands; grandchildren Gilbert Labrucherie Jr., Kimberly Mackay, Christy Salings, Suzanne Labrucherie, Louise Vivian and Morgan Cole; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Tallman of Endicott, N.Y.
Visitation is 6:30 to 8 p.m. today and services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, both at Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel, 703 Brookside Ave., Redlands. Burial will be in Elmira, N.Y.
