Was in the Civil War, and was also a baptist minister and baptized his nephew George Calvin Downs (Sam's son).
Thomas, Jr. had three wives. The first was Lydia, who died in 1868 and the second was Margaret, who died in 1876. He was listed without his wife in 1880, as a widowed miner with 6 children.
Thomas appears in the 1900 census for Preston Co, West Virginia, where he is listed (67, PA) as a farmer with a 3rd wife of 20 yrs, Hanna (53, PA) and their children Jessie (18, PA) and Thomas W. (15, WV). it says all three of their children are still living, but only two are listed with them, so it is unknown who their other child was.
He is still listed there in 1910 at age 76, with his wife Hannah of 29 yrs and son Thomas W.
